Newton’s Third Law of Motion

By November 5, 2011Denial

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Over the past four years, I have had some pretty awful things transpire: I got divorced, my mom died of unusual circumstance, I was on the verge of bankruptcy, and then my brother completed suicide. There were moments along that journey where you just thought to yourself, “I’m gonna sit down now and not get back up,” and maybe sometimes I would rest my weight on the shoulders of my exceptional family and friends. But I couldn’t just stop moving. I knew if I did, I would be finished… the wounds would fester, and it could potentially be the end of me. So I kept momentum, even if it was crawling on hands and knees in desperation to make it another inch, and an inch was more than half an inch and half an inch was more than a quarter. Forward momentum no matter what, Newton’s law would apply. If something traumatically bad was gonna happen, then something breathtakingly exceptional must be in the works.

In those same four years, I have had equally positive things happen to me as well. The divorce, while devastating, brought me closer to my mom. My brother’s situation resulted in me reaching out to Jackie, and we were able to reconcile and get to a very healthy space. I, to this day, consider her one of my most trusted friends on the planet and still think of her parents as an extension of my own. The company didn’t go bankrupt, and we ended up selling it and doing amazing things with some of the largest advertisers on the planet.

The key was to keep moving and to try to believe that if something really negative happened, there was an equally positive counter effect somewhere in the works.
