Our Name Day…

By January 22, 2012Depression

In three days time, my brother would have turned 32. Normally we wouldn’t have done much—maybe some steak at Ben & Jack’s, a few key friends, a nice bottle of wine.

This year, however, I had BIG plans. I was working on planning a trip to take David heli-skiing in Alaska. I was going to try to actually celebrate his 30th birthday, which was in 2009, but that was overshadowed by Mom’s death. I think he was aware of it, as I hinted at it a few times as something to look forward to, something to want to keep living for. Unfortunately when I am in that helicopter, he’ll only be in my heart and not in the seat next to me.

In so many ways, I want to honor his life, so this weekend I spent some time trying to make a little Facebook tile that I am hoping anybody reading this will be nice enough to post as their profile picture for one day. I hope that you will all post a little something nice on his wall, more than just a “Happy Birthday,” but maybe share a little story of how he impacted your life as he impacted mine.

While we never made a big deal about birthdays, it was more a function of our family upbringing than our actual interest in doing something that recognized our time here on this planet. So even though he is not longer with us, I’d like to give him something I know he wanted but was too shy to ask. Below is a link to the picture for the profile page.

His birthday will be on Wednesday, January 25th, and I am hoping you will help me honor his short lived life by posting the tile and sharing your stories of how he impacted your life.
